On October 1, 1982, Walt Disney World Resort welcomed a new addition to its magical kingdom: Epcot Center. Founded by Walt Disney himself, Epcot was intended to be a futuristic city showcasing human achievement and the potential of technology.

The Epcot Center

The original Epcot Center consisted of two main areas: Future World and World Showcase. Future World showcased the advancements of science and technology, while World Showcase celebrated the cultures and traditions of countries around the world.

One of the most iconic landmarks of Epcot Center was Spaceship Earth, a geodesic sphere that housed the park's main attraction, a journey through the history of communication.

The Evolution of Future World

Over the years, Future World has undergone several transformations. In 1989, the Imagination! Pavilion opened, featuring interactive exhibits on creativity and innovation. In 1994, The Land Pavilion was expanded to include the Living with the Land boat ride, showcasing sustainable agriculture and food production.

In 2005, The Seas Pavilion was reimagined as The Seas with Nemo & Friends, featuring the Crush 'n' Gusher water coaster and a meet-and-greet with the characters from the Disney-Pixar film, Finding Nemo. The Universe of Energy pavilion was later replaced by Mission: SPACE, a thrilling space simulator attraction.

The Expansion of World Showcase

World Showcase has also witnessed significant growth and expansion since its inception. In 1984, the American Adventure pavilion was added, celebrating the history and culture of the United States. In 1988, the Norway pavilion opened, featuring a replica of a 19th-century Norwegian village.

More recently, the World Showcase has welcomed the addition of pavilions representing Morocco (2009),China (2015),and France (2017).
